How Do We Study Properly?

Ever find yourself staring at a textbook or laptop screen, wondering, "What am I even doing?" Yeah, we've all been there. Studying isn’t just about reading a bunch of words and hoping they stick—it's an art. And like any art, it takes practice, some trial and error, and a little bit of figuring out what works for you. So how do we study properly? Let’s break it down, without the boring textbook stuff, alright?

Start with What Works for You

You might hear people say, “Just study for hours, and you’ll be fine.” But guess what? Everyone’s brain is wired differently. Some of us are night owls, cramming when the world’s asleep. Others need that early morning fresh start. There’s no “one size fits all” when it comes to learning.

Find your peak time—when you're most focused, and run with it.

 Ditch Multitasking—It’s a Trap

Look, we all think we’re master multitaskers. Doing homework, listening to a podcast, texting your friend... sounds productive, right? Nope. Multitasking actually kills focus. You end up doing a bunch of stuff, half-baked. So pick one thing and just do that.

Trust me, it's like magic—things get done quicker when you give them all your attention.

Make Studying Active, Not Passive

Here’s the thing: just reading something doesn’t mean it’s going to stick in your head. Your brain needs to be actively involved. Highlighting key points, scribbling notes, asking yourself questions—anything that gets your brain off autopilot mode is a win.

Try teaching what you learned to someone else. It doesn’t matter if it’s a friend or even your dog—explaining it out loud really helps solidify what you know (or what you don’t know).

 Take Breaks, Like Real Ones

Our brains aren't designed to go non-stop. That’s why breaks are so crucial. No, I’m not talking about scrolling through social media in between study sessions—that’s not a break, that’s a distraction. Instead, take a walk, grab a snack, do something offline. Your brain needs time to process what you've just learned.

Think of it like recharging your phone—no charge, no power.

Be Kind to Yourself, Seriously

Studying is tough, and no one’s expecting you to nail it every single time. Some days are gonna feel like you’re crushing it, and other days? Not so much. That’s cool. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Take it one step at a time, celebrate the small wins, and remember, consistency is key. You’ll get there.

Learning how to study properly isn’t a one-size-fits-all deal. It's about experimenting, figuring out what works for you, and knowing that even on the rough days, you’re still making progress. So, get out there, try a few new things, and remember—it’s all about working *smarter*, not harder.
